THE BOYS AND GIRLS GET TOGETHER— AT LAST!
Some of the best ideas come from moments of chance. In
October 2011, George Critchlow ’67 stopped by campus on his way to the coast from Spokane and met Head of School Mo Copeland. During their conversation, George told Mo that he thought the men and women of the “BDH era” on the OES campus should have a reunion. Flash forward 11 months to September 2012, and a wonderful group of 45 men and women from BDH/SHH classes of 1967 through 1972 gathered for a reunion, brought together by a team of dedicated reunion committee members. Thanks, team! In the process of helping the team
bring this reunion together, I had the opportunity to delve a bit more deeply into this unique era of the school’s history. Our archives hold many amusing (at least in retrospect) memos and letters, detailing the conversations, conflicts, and ultimate collaboration between the two schools. As with all eras in the school’s history, there was an amazing group of parent and community volunteers working quietly to envision and execute the school’s future. I am grateful I had the chance to learn more about this important time in the school’s history,
through archival documents, pictures, and of course most important, personal conversations.
Other classes gathered as well, including 1987 (spearheaded by Theresa Webster and Gwyn Mauritz) and 1992 (led by Courtney Brown and Tara Sorensen Witt). The class of 1982 had a small gathering in September but has decided to look ahead to 2014 to plan what has affectionately been dubbed the “Geezer Gathering,” celebrating the year members of the class will turn 50 years old. Stay tuned for details in the year to come, or contact Markus Mattwandel or Kevin Cavanagh with your ideas. Speaking of 50-year celebrations, the class of 1963 is planning a spectacular 50th Reunion in June 2013. To date, 18 women (out of the total graduating class of 24) have committed to come. Wow! I am looking forward to spending time with these women, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the class of ’63 in conjunction with the graduation of the class of 2013. Members of the team that organized the BDH/SHH 1967-1972 reunion were:
Denny Crafton ’67 George Critchlow ’67 Rebecca Reynolds ’67 Sue Crenshaw Proudfoot ’68 Chuck Reynolds ’69 North Cheatham ’69 Marni Bethell Williams ’69 Marybeth Merwin Buck ’69 Paige Plummer Hasson ’69 Randy Ray ’70 Toni Webb ’70 Richard Storre ’71 Carrie Sammons ’72 Mary Critchlow ’72
SAVE THE DATE! REUNION 2013 • JUNE 21–23, 2013
Due to alumnae/i feedback into our Spring 2012 survey, we are moving the Reunion to June. We will continue to hold an all-alumnae/i social as part of Homecoming in the fall, but will focus Reunion activities in June, culminating with the annual Alumnae/i Golf Tournament.
All alumnae/i are welcome. Classes ending in ’3 or ’8 will hold class-only Reunion activities. For more information, or to help organize your class Reunion,
contact Alumnae/i Director Lisa DeGrace at
degracel@oes.edu or 503-768-3137.
