For Meldreth there is a request to move the village envelope behind North End/Malton Lane, which could allow further development along Malton Lane. Also in the consultation are 267 new houses for Melbourn, east of New Road and at East Farm.

Councillor Soond’s next surgeries will be held on 4th February and 4th March, from 7.00-8.00pm in Elin Way Community Room, Elin Way, Meldreth.

County Councillor’s Report 1. Street lighting

Balfour Beatty (who are replacing street lights with more efficient lighting) were met by Councillor van de Ven following complaints about the high concentration of lights around the Station Road and War Memorial area. This is due to the developers of the affordable housing scheme having installed their own street light scheme before the county scheme was approved. The number of new lights will be reduced to a sensible level. Councillor van de Ven has asked to be further consulted on this and complaints of glare causing danger to drivers.

2. Priority list for pavement (footways) and road repair The Parish Council (and residents via the Clerk) are asked to let Councillor van de Ven know if there any areas in particularly bad condition to go on her list. The Clerk has sent a list of footways in need of repair to both Councillor van de Ven and the Highways Department and Parish Councillors will look at footways which may need totally resurfacing.

3. Melbourn Business Association (MBA)

The MBA (http://melbourn.biz/) has issued a general open invitation to the travelling community of Meldreth to join the association, and the next meeting is a breakfast meeting on 5th February at 7.30am at Sheene Mill. The MBA has many Meldreth members and Councillor van de Ven would like to encourage people to join as it is a lively and welcoming group.
