an exchange trip to Paris which is where my love of drawing children was founded. The Parisian children had such an old fashioned sense of chic about them, reminiscent of the drawings of children that I had loved growing up. I went on to illustrate children’s books and greetings card which was perfect experience for starting Belle & Boo.

Please describe your work setting for us. My work setting at the moment is in the attic of my home, grabbing hours when I can. I have 6 month old twin boys that keep me very busy and the house very messy, so the attic is my sanctuary. It feels so calm and grown up there. I have a desk, a large monitor, a big pair of head phones so that I can listen to podcasts of The Archers and James O’Brien. If I have a latte to sip on, even better!

What do you regard as the most rewarding aspect of your work? It is the personal emails that we get sent to us, telling us about

how much they or their child loves a product. One customer told us that her daughter likes to make up different stories about Belle and Boo pictured in her framed print and how she always says goodnight to them. Belle and Boo themed parties always make me smile and I can’t help but be be hugely flattered when someone sends us a photo of their Belle and Boo tattoo. Ouch!

And the most frustrating aspect of your work? At the moment it is lack of time. I am a huge perfectionist when it comes to my work and I could spend hours trying to get a detail just right.

What - or who - inspires you and keeps you motivated? It’s the illustrators who I love that inspire me and push me to be better and try harder.

I recently saw an

original Cicely Mary Barker ‘Flower Fairy’ painting at the Victoria & Albert Museum and it made me realise how much harder I have to try to perfect what I do.

What unique?

I think it is the drawings that make us unique, and the care that we put into everything we do. Other businesses
