along with some background history, as well as ways in which she adapts and develops it further for her own work in order to create something different. Her words are poetic and written with such excitement and enthusiasm; it’s hard not to feel inspired.

Throughout, there are pages of full colour images showing examples of Karen’s work juxtaposed with images of objects, artwork and architectural detail that may have been subconsciously influential and clearly display relationships in colour, shape, and texture.

Karen has the ability to harness the unique qualities of the old, worn and broken, and transform them into contemporary one-off pieces. Stand out pieces include a collection of one-off embellished cashmere sweaters and vintage ‘conversation piece’ handbags, and the unbelievably beautiful textured and decorated animals, featuring a bull, some fish and bears.

Embellished is a fascinating book that implores you to look at the world around you with fresh eyes and to absorb it. Karen’s original and refreshing work illustrates how experimentation can take the ordinary to extraordinary.

I’ve no experience in fashion or interiors but found her work inspirational.

The pages explode

with so much texture, shape and colour that you want to reach out and feel things. It’s quite liberating to witness how the boundaries and structure of well-known traditional techniques have been stretched and developed

into something quite

new and exquisite. This book inspires you to want to create.
