END OF YEAR REVIEW Taking control of energy use
With energy prices rising, the head of one of the UK’s leading building energy management companies is calling for businesses to act decisively and take control of their buildings’ energy use. According to t-mac’s Lisa Gingell, businesses that invest in energy management technology and use it in the right way can see a return on their investment within 18 months through reduced energy bills. Lisa explains: “Businesses can eradicate energy waste and make a significant dent in company overheads by installing Automatic Monitoring and Targeting (aM&T) software technology. The technology works with metering data in commercial buildings and delivers energy management information directly to those who can take action. It can help building owners and occupiers to manage their energy and comply with regulatory requirements. The key is getting the information on a building’s energy instantly. There are some meters that provide readings 24 hours after the event, so businesses need to make sure that they are using real-time data from mains and sub meters in order to act on unusual readings as they happen, instead of dealing with the problem later. While aM&T software takes metering data to highlight and quantify inefficiencies, this is only part of the picture for energy management; by adding controls, you are actively reducing or removing these inefficiencies and saving cost and carbon.” The t-mac system operates by
gathering energy consumption information from utilities or sources of power. By monitoring and controlling the energy consumption and emissions from these devices businesses can develop a solution for minimising waste, and reducing financial outgoings. Businesses can set criteria on the energy conditions of the chosen equipment via t-mac to ensure that potential energy sapping devices stay within
preset 'carbon friendly' ranges. t-mac can also alert businesses via text message or email when equipment operates without preset ranges. In addition, it can highlight equipment using more energy and create a plan to reduce energy consumption, improve equipment performance, and gain best practice techniques. Crown wins Universal Design Award
Crown, the manufacturer of electric lift trucks, was honoured with the international Universal Design Award for its WT 3000 Powered Pallet Truck Series at the HANNOVER MESSE trade fair in April. Crown’s WT 3000 Series has been recognised for its increased focus on ergonomic features and the positive impact on health, safety and operator comfort that such features provide. The WT 3000 system achieves an 80- percent reduction in the impact of shock on operators repeatedly driving over dock boards. This means operators can drive over uneven surfaces without having to reduce speed, thus significantly increasing productivity while minimising strain on the spine and joints. The Crown WT 3000, which is available with a flip-down platform or a fixed platform, stood out for its two types of FlexRide suspension system. The flip-down platform with FlexRide achieved a vibration emission value of less than 0.6 m/s. The Crown WT 3000 pallet truck series includes models that can handle loads of up to 2,500 kilos. Moreover, the series offers a choice between mechanical and electronic steering, as well as four operator platform types. For more information telephone 0845 850 9276 or visit
