James Luxford presents a Christmas DVD & Blu Ray guide LIFE & STYLE: FILM

It’s Christmas once again, and as the big day gets closer there’s always one family member you still haven’t bought for! Well, hopefully our picks for the perfect movie- related presents can help you out! Happy Christmas!

FOR MUM: “New Year’ Eve”

(Released 10th December) Halle Berry, Robert De Niro and Sarah Jessica Parker star alongside a host of big names in this multi- character story about a group of loosely connected New Yorkers all looking to resolve their own issues before the clock strikes midnight. The quintessential romantic comedy.

FOR DAD:

“The Expendables 2” (Released 10th December) About as macho as you can get, as action stars from the 1980’s unite to save the world (again). Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean Claude Van Damme all appear in a movie that will be any action fans’ dream!

FOR OLDER KIDS:

“The Dark Knight Trilogy” (Released 3rd December) Hard to believe Christopher Nolan’s genre changing take on Batman is all over, but you can relive his battles against the Scarecrow, The Joker and of course Tom Hardy’s Bane in this multi disc box set.

HE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS h December) ular Tarantino collaborator RZA (who provided the music

his hit film “Kill Bill”) goes behind the camera for this Kung- action film starring RZA, Russell we and Lucy Liu. The plot centres

“The Twilight Saga” (out now) Still not quite recovered from last month’s conclusion to the “Twilight” series? Well go back to the beginning all

70 December 2012

over again with this set, which includes the first four films as well as hours of behind the scenes documentaries, trailers and interviews.

FOR YOUNGER KIDS:

“The Amazing Spider-man” (out now) Despite being just five years since the previous incarnation, this Spider-man ‘reboot’ (as it’s known in the industry) proved a big hit in the summer, and now the action-packed superhero movie, starring Andrew Garfield as the webcrawler, can be yours to take home!

“Ice Age 4: Continental Drift” (released 10th December) Very few franchises make it to four films, let alone make a good fourth film, but “Ice Age 4” bucks both trends with a hugely entertaining adventure that will delight younger viewers, which includes a special short film beforehand starring The Simpsons!

FOR CHRISTMAS DAY:

“ARTHUR CHRISTMAS” (out now). Santa’s forgotten one child this year, and it’s up to his clumsy but well- meaning brother Arthur (voiced by James McAvoy) to save the day in this wonderful family animation from the makers of “Wallace and Gromit”. Lots of laughs and adventure for the whole family.
