Winter 2012 Edition 23

From The Edi tor . . .

This summer has been a time of great celebration with the Golden Jubilee, the Olympics and the Paralympic events being held throughout the UK. On 28th August, crowds gathered at NMC to watch the Paralympic Flame as it passed through on its way to London and clients and their families’ participated in a day of sporting demonstrations.

It was so good to see so many of you at the event and share in such a momentous occasion. On a personal note my husband and I have just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and so it has been a memorable year on many counts!

In this edition we celebrate the day the Flame came to the NMC, Anne and Walton kindly share their recent cruising experiences and we look at different types of activity holidays that people with disabilities can enjoy. We also share with you the importance of a good night’s sleep and the things we can do to help promote this. There’s an update on NMC in the Midlands and clients share their experiences of staying safe in their home.

As all your contributions have demonstrated this year, there are plenty of opportunities for those of us with a disability. Life doesn’t have to stop just because you are no longer very mobile. Whether it’s through sport, a holiday, going to a concert, visiting parks and museums, it CAN be done. Yes there’s no doubt these things take more organising and planning but it IS possible. Together, we can make all our lives rewarding and fulfilling.

I look forward to working with you all in 2013. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for the coming year.
