WHAT’S NEW LIEBHERR INTRODUCES NEW SERIES OF HEAVY LIFT OFFSHORE CRANES

The Liebherr heavy lift off shore crane series consists of machine types with lifting capacities from 300t to 3,000t. The machine types are BOS 7500, BOS 14000, BOS 35000, BOS 45000, MTC 78000, CAL 45000, and CAL 64000. Because of the increasing importance of heavy lift off shore cranes, Liebherr developed

the heavy lift off shore crane type CAL 64000 – 1500 Litronic, which is used for the installation of off shore wind turbine generators. The fi rst crane will be delivered for the jack-up vessel Innovation, owned by HGO InfraSea Solutions. In addition, two further heavy lift units type BOS 35000 were delivered to the

company DSME in Korea (for RWE Innogy, off shore installation ship Victoria Mathias and Friedrich Ernestine) as well as one unit BOS 45000 to the company Keppel Fels in Singapore (Workfox Seafox). The CAL 64000 – 1500 Litronic achieves a maximum lifting capacity of 1,500t at a maximum working radius of

31.5m. The boom length of the crane currently on order is 105m. The dead weight of the new crane is 1,500t at a lifting height of over 120m above deck. The special feature of the heavy lift crane is its slewing ring with an outer diameter of 13m. The slewing bearing alone weighs over 100 t. Moreover, the crane is designed as ‘Crane Around the Leg’—built around

one of the vessel’s four legs. This specially developed crane type, which is able to rotate 360 degrees around the vessel’s leg, off ers a relatively small

obstruction area of 12m, which—together with a slewing ring inner diameter of 11m—allows for ideal positioning of the crane around the vessel’s leg. Thanks to the special twin boom design, the boom can even be lowered and parked over one of the vessel’s front legs. This solution prevents the crane from obstructing free space on deck which can be used for loading the jack-up vessel. The enormous lifting capacity of the heavy lift crane enables the installation of over 5MW strong turbines and rotors

as well as the loading and subsequent safe installation of the heaviest foundations. Apart from the installation of off shore wind power stations, the crane is also suitable for the oil and gas market, e.g. for assembly and disassembly of platforms or other structures. WHAT’S NEW VAN BEEST OFFERS SMALLER SLING SHACKLE OPTION AND EXPANDS GREEN PIN SHACKLES

After the recent introduction of the Green Pin Sling shackle WLL 30 tons, Van Beest is expanding its range of shackles once again with the release of a smaller size: 18 tons. These shackles now cover a range of working load limits up to 1,500 tons. Compared to the standard Green Pin shackles, this smaller

version has an increased bow radius for protecting slings and improving resistance to wear and tear. These shackles are ideal for use with wire rope and synthetic sling applications. At no extra charge, this product can be supplied with

a works certifi cate, material certifi cate, manufacturer test certifi cate, EC declaration of Conformity, and all shackles from 75 tons are supplied with a Lloyd’s Register of Shipping Certifi cate on proof load. An MPI and/or U.S. inspection certifi cate can be supplied upon request. Van Beest can also now supply two variations of its

Green Pin ROV Release Polar Shackles—one with spring pins and one with a locking clamp—directly from stock. A third shackle, which features a spring-loaded system, is also available upon request. The direct-from-stock shackles are made of bow and pin

WHAT’S NEW J.D. NEUHAUS’ EMERGENCY LOWERING DEVICE NOW AVAILABLE ON PROFI TI LINE

The emergency lowering device recently introduced by J.D. Neuhaus for its EH range of air operated hoists can now also be supplied as a standard feature on the Profi Ti line from 25 to 60 tons lift capacity. Hoists incorporating the emergency lowering device option are equipped with a separate air tank, with two additional buttons also incorporated into the hand controllers. This air reservoir is automatically maintained at the full working air pressure during normal hoist operations. This ensures the availability of a positive emergency braking system when required, and the air tank is also protected by a check valve. Certifi cation by Det Norske Veritas can also be provided on request, to comply with safety requirements involving applications for off shore cranes as well as power-driven hoists.

The device becomes operable in the event of a severe reduction or total loss of mains air pressure. It then provides practical two-handed operation to avoid unintentional lowering. One of the control button switches then selects between normal hoist operation and emergency lowering. The second control button opens the integrated operational brake to facilitate a controlled lowering of the suspended load under the action of its own dead weight. Where the Profi hoists are equipped with trolleys for lateral movements, the reservoir air tank can be mounted on the chain box container. For static hoists, the reservoir can be mounted anywhere convenient within the surrounding working area. The Profi Ti range is suitable for all engineering applications throughout a wide range of industries, including oil and gas exploration and processing, mining, shipbuilding, foundries, the chemical industry, and heavy plant construction. WHAT’S NEW STELLAR

TECHNOLOGY ISSUES MINIATURE COMPRESSION UNITS

Stellar Technology has introduced the new Series MIN845 miniature compression load washer/load cell. An ideal solution for a variety of applications, such as fastener testing, the MIN845 is fully welded, shock- and vibration-resistant, and constructed of stainless steel for reliable service in rugged environments. The versatile through-hole design is available in

a wide selection of both standard and special outside and inside diameters, in ranges from 2,500 to 125,000 pounds. Bonded foil strain gauge force sensors provide BFSL accuracy of 2.0% and mV/V output as standard. The units are supplied with a set of top and bottom washers to ensure even loading. Load cells can be mated with in-line and DIN

rail-mount signal conditioners to provide current or voltage outputs. Each unit is shipped with a 5-point calibration record traceable to NIST as standard. For more information, visit www.stellartech.com.y
