IIWII Beach Bar & Grill It Is What It Is... Which Is?!
On Saturday night, November 10, 2012,
IIWII Beach Bar & Grille (the acronym stands for “It Is What It Is” and pronounced “E-wee”) celebrated their official grand opening. Mark’s Badly Bent Band rocked the house till closing, with several of SWFL’s best guest musicians, while some of the best food in town including Maryland Crab Cakes, huge hand cut rib eye steaks, Oyster Rockefeller, and giant shrimp appetizers flew out of the kitchen. Located at 13150 Tamiami Trail N, behind
the Walgreens on Wiggins Pass and US41, locals might remember this venue’s past lives as Mr. J’s Tavern, followed by a much shorter run as Mr. Jerry’s. No traces of those former identities remain as the IIWII team successfully transformed the space into a tropical theme park, complete with a tiki lanai, outside front bar, and sandy beach area with a volleyball court. A floor-to-ceiling mural of a tropical
setting welcomes visitors to the bar, surrounded by turquoise and lemon yellow decor. The front wall was knocked out to make room for one of the three indoor and outdoor bars dramatically opening up the space. White sugar sand has been added around an adjoining small lake and the addition of a brightly colored picket fence and hammocks complete the Bahamas vibe. The fun and games at go all day… from
cornhole toss, foosball, bocce ball, pool tables, and Lake Golf to Buzz Time Trivia and Texas Hold’Em. Happy hour is 4-7pm and 10pm-close, Monday-Friday, plus live entertainment weekly on Wednesday- Saturday, with bands such as local favorite, Manipulators, playing every other Saturday night. Add free cotton candy and popcorn, NFL ticket on Sundays, and some of the most creative food in town and its official… IIWII Beach Bar IS what it is, plus a whole lot more!

DJ Anthony Martin Remembered Fernando Martinez, better known locally as
DJ Anthony Martin, passed away on September 4, 2012, after a fearless battle with leukemia. A popular, lifelong resident of Naples, Martinez had a lifelong career in the music industry. He started
spinning at age eleven, and by age 15 he was DJing at teen clubs. He
expanded on his talents in later years, starring as a radio personality on local radio stations, and was well known for his late night music mixes. Martinez was also involved in the opening and promotion of several well known
nightclubs in the area, working tirelessly to build the SWFL nightlife scene. The DJ opened up for many famous acts over the years such as Oscar G, George Acosta, Ralph Falcon, Ivano Bellini, Pedro M, Tony Puccio, Bruno, Patrick M, Matt Martinez, DJ Stingray, and Nelson Diaz to name a few. On May 29th, 2010, just nine days after his 39th birthday, DJ Anthony Martin was
diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He bravely endured radiation and chemotherapy treatment for the disease, spending six months in and out of the hospital. Friends and fans rallied, organizing several fundraising events and celebrating his remission and 40th birthday with a “F**K Cancer” bash at Vision Nightclub the following year on May 28, 2011. In honor of DJ Anthony Martin, Noodles Italian Café hosted a Celebration of Life
on Saturday, September 15th, with an after party at Seven Nightclub in Bonita Springs. Crowds flooded the venues to show love, support, and to party for a good cause. Seven held no guest list for this event and all door proceeds were donated to DJ Anthony’s family. DJ Anthony was a true innovator, rocking the SWFL club scene for the past 20 years, and is not only missed, but loved by all who knew him. To leave your favorite memories of DJ Anthony Martin and online condolences for the family please visit his Facebook page (under Fernando Martinez).
It’s Really Over Now... So don’t bother calling... there’s nothing
to talk about! Amidst a swirling toilet bowl of rumors and finger pointing, Loft 59 was finally flushed in September 2012. Located at 2059 Tamiami Trail East, the venue better known as Sway Lounge, came onto the scene with big plans in October 2010. After a lengthy and costly renovation, the already high end nightclub’s transformation set expectations high from the start. Unfortunately, the apparently toxic combo of mismanagement,
plus a revolving door of promoters, and PR nightmares, like the foam party eye injuries in June 2010, led to the venue’s ultimate demise. The odd factor in this whole mix is
that there appears to have been a takeover of sorts by the last set of promoters... call Loft 59’s old number, visit their website or old Facebook page and you’ll find only info
for Club Dimensions (old Snapper’s location). Things that make you say hmmmmmm!!
