PULSE / Music Local Music written by: Moony Mann

music columnist offering a unique perspective. As one of the busi- est local musicians, I was able to relate to subjects from both sides of the microphone, on stage and off. This concept was the founda- tion on which I based my columns and determined what I tried to convey to readers. It was a good plan on paper when I started, but what I didn’t foresee was one of those “good” problems. I’ve become so busy as a local entertainer that I’m pressed for

Y

time… all the time! Last season, from October 2011 to June 2012, I performed over 550 times at better venues all over Southwest Florida. That said, it’s easy to see how also covering the local mu- sic scene, which entails going to shows, checking out new talent at open mic nights, and listening to demos could become problem- atic. So, at this time, I must submit my reluctant resignation as the “Local Music Spotlight” columnist for Pulse. Over the years I’ve met some incredible artists performing both

on the local and world stage, and have become lifelong friends with many. I’ve received nothing but positive feedback from my columns and never received even one negative comment; I am proud of this. Currently, I receive an average of 30-40 inquiries a week from not only local bands and solo acts, but also from PR contacts for international acts with performances scheduled in the area, all asking about coverage in the magazine. That says some- thing about the impact of Pulse and my articles on our readers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at Pulse

for their support. Photographers have added wonderful imagery to my words, graphic designers have made me look like I know what I’m doing, and copy editors have saved me from embarrassment on more than one occasion. Thanks to the artists who have put up with my prying interrogations, letting me into their worlds and allowing a glimpse into their souls. My thanks to the many local business owners who have allowed me to write about my experi- ences at their venues. I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to Pam Lazarto. Pam is one of the smartest and most hardworking people I know, and has been the best editor a writer could ever hope for. Most of all, I’d like to thank YOU, the reader. Which brings me

to my next issue… who’s going to take my place? Well, I’ve agreed to stay on in an advisory position until my replacement is found. So if you have a passion for 100% LIVE local music entertainment and have a talent for writing about it, we want to hear from YOU. Spotlight ears ago I joined Pulse Magazine SWFL as the LIVE local TURNING A PAGE... I don’t expect nor do I want to book 550 gigs in one season again

(that was way too many), but I will be performing many times in the upcoming season at better venues all over SWFL, both as a soloist and with the Moony Mann Band. I hope you’ll come to see me! More info along with my performance calendar is available online at www.moonymann.com. Thanks again, everyone! May- be, just maybe, one day you’ll see me on the cover of Pulse.
