June-July 2012 South West Building & Construction 29

Active branch in the South West LIGHTHOUSE CLUB

This year the dignitaries at

the evening were Mark and Judith Everett, Tony and Maureen Green and David and June Jeffery.

Mark, the chairman of the Lighthouse Club National Benevolent Fund, travelled from Scotland for the evening and has attended every dinner since the relaunch of the South West branch. Tony is a national council member and David is the South West chairman. The South West branch handed a cheque for £7,000 to Mark Everett at the event. The Lighthouse Club booked

every room in the hotel for the occasion, when the dress code was black tie for the men and posh frocks for the ladies. A total of 120 guests enjoyed a four course meal.

In a speech, the Lighthouse

Club’s Devon Welfare Officer Susanne Furse thanked everyone for attending and for giving so generously on the night and in the past.

Mark Everett praised the

South West branch for being one of the most proactive in the country and said that it was unique with so many young members - which is fantastic for the future of the Lighthouse Club. He also said that the Lighthouse Club was like a big family. Next year the Ladies Night Dinner and Dance will be held at the Langstone Cliff Hotel on Friday, March 1. Later this year, the South

West branch will be holding a fundraising go-karting event. This will take place at Raceworld, Exeter, on Sunday, November 4. For more information on the

South West branch, contact Susanne Furse at info@lukefurse.co.uk. The Lighthouse Club was founded on the values of consideration for others, compassion and camaraderie, and members aim to have a good time whilst raising money

to help workers and their families when they find themselves in need of financial help, whether they are members of the club or not. Today the club has branches around the UK and across the world.

Money is raised through membership subscription,

national and branch events, corporate sponsorship and the goodwill of individuals who go to great lengths for a cause they believe in. If you would be interested in joining or in pledging your support by donating, go to www.lighthouseclub.org to find out how.
