Do you love design in the industry?
THIS summer, we celebrate the amazing architecture of the buildings, streets and neighbourhoods where you live with Love Architecture 2012. From June 15-24, places and spaces across England and Wales are brought to life through a range of events, including walks, talks, tours, films, bike rides, competitions, exhibitions and family workshops. Discover buildings and architecture with fresh eyes. Access buildings normally closed to the public, take photographic town tours, peek inside an architect’s studio or make a sandcastle of your favourite building. Co-ordinated by the RIBA, Love Architecture will offer the opportunity for fringe events from institutions, construction companies, their clients, and other professions to show off and promote recent building projects through exciting ways that inform and inspire the public to celebrate the built environment. Let us know if you want to be involved at

As well as building tours including Heartlands at Redruth, highlights for the South West include ‘If buildings could talk...’ a puppet show and tour on June 16-17 (3pm and 5pm) at St Ives Harbour. The quirky puppet show will be led by Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects and will reveal the secrets and mysteries of some of the town’s most famous buildings, concluding with an architectural challenge to enjoy over ice creams. It is followed by a tour of the award- winning studio of Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole. Exeter Picturehouse will take part in the Picturehouse Present: Architectural Features film events as part of a nationwide series to celebrate the special relationship between architecture and cinema. At Exeter, Professor Bob Brown, Head of the School of Architecture at the University of Plymouth, will introduce The Fountainhead, and Stefanie Fischer of Burrell Foley Fischer will talk on the building itself.
On June 16, at Maenporth beach, Falmouth, arm yourself with a bucket and spade (and some lemonade) for the Love Sandcastles Challenge 2012, a fun day creating sandcastles with an architectural or construction theme. Seize the chance to demonstrate your building skills and enter your work for prizes. Use it to promote your company by getting T-shirts made. Find out more at
lovearchitecture.org. Slightly further afield, on June 22 at the School of Engineering’s Queens Building, University of Bristol, and supported by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the We Love Lego lecture will offer an insight into the world of Lego taking you through the design processes using the Lego Creator house design process, direct modular building, and world building design process. Find out more at
lovearchitecture.org. And don’t forget that the next Construction Industry Council South West Networking Forum will be at County Hall, Truro, on May 16 from 5pm-7.30pm. Open to all members of the construction industry and featuring speakers from Cornwall Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership, this event offers essential networking opportunities for those in the industry, as well as CPD and debate.
