Does money follow good ideas? We think so. Example: In 1992 a small group of people in Janesville put $5,500 into a new charitable organization. This start-up charity would be one to which each and every citizen could contribute for the benefit of their community regardless of the size of their gift.
Twenty years and thousands of generous gifts later, the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin has grown to generate nearly $2 million in grants and scholarships annually, almost all for the benefit of Southern Wisconsin communities.
That is a phenomenal milestone and an indication of just how much giving ---and giving back---matters to the people of Southern Wisconsin. A heartfelt thank you to all whose contributions over the past 20 years have helped grow and spread the community foundation idea across our region.
During the past year your Community Foundation has had another round of good ideas and accomplishments:
New educational funds in Hillsboro and Wisconsin Dells this year pushed our service area into Vernon and Sauk counties. We now serve communities in nine southern Wisconsin counties. We are delighted that the new funds

in Hillsboro and the Dells started as the result of relationships the Community Foundation had built with their educational leaders years ago. Curt Bisarek, superintendent of Hillsboro and Terry Slack, superintendent of Wisconsin Dells had been involved with the Iowa-Grant Educational Foundation.
The two-year old PHS Scholarship Fund outdid themselves this year awarding 75 scholarships totaling more than $68,000 to the graduates of the Platteville High School Class of 2012. That’s 15 times the scholarships the group awarded in 2010!
We honored 60 donors with membership in the new Heritage Society. Qualified donors have made a planned gift or established an endowed
fund with the Community Foundation.
The new Janesville EIE made its first awards to the School District of Janesville.
We are pleased to be going into our 21st year in a strong financial position and look forward to continued growth and service to our Southern Wisconsin communities for many more years to come. Forg
