in Sport This course provides a background and range of skills and knowledge required for employment in the sport and recreation industries.
Entry requirements: BTEC Introductory Diploma (merit), or 4 GCSEs at grades D-G (including English), plus a satisfactory reference.
Possible next steps: BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (level 3) or employment in sport and recreation.
Level 3 BTEC Extended
Diploma in Sport The BTEC Diplomas in Sport are designed to equip people with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression into employment or further educational opportunities. The BTEC Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is a specialist qualifi cation that focuses on a specifi c vocational area. People will study the core concepts common to all the Diplomas in Sport but will also study other areas that are key to the study of sports performance. The Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is an integral part of the education of young elite athletes in the UK, being part of the technical certifi cate requirement on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence.

Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE)
Basketball The purpose of the Sporting Excellence framework is to provide a pathway for the development of elite young athletes across England in their chosen sport (basketball). This advanced level framework qualifi es learners with a Level 3 (including a full level 3 academic programme, coaching awards and the NVQ3 in sporting excellence). This advanced level apprenticeship provides progression opportunities for athletes interested in entering an alternative career in the Active Leisure and Learning sector.
Entry requirements: Potential Apprentices have to be endorsed as meeting the necessary playing ability, by England Basketball.
Possible next steps: University, undergraduate courses, Foundation Degree courses, or into employment in sport and recreation.
