Level 2 Certifi cate in Preparing to Work in Health
and Social Care This course gives you a thorough introduction to a variety of topics fundamental to working in adult social care. The course focuses on your professional knowledge and your language skills to help you fi nd work in the rewarding Health and Social Care sector.
Core units include: Working in Adult Social Care, Person Centred Approaches in Social Care Settings, Safeguarding and Duty of Care in Adult Social Care Settings, Safe Working Practices in Health and Social Care Settings.
The course runs three days a week for one year. You will also study Functional Skills in maths and English or ESOL and do a work experience placement for which you will need a CRB check (see page 10).
Entry requirements: Level 1 Health and Social Care (merit) or College assessment and an appropriate level of English.
Possible next steps: Level 3 qualifi cations. Level 3 BTEC Diploma in
Health and Social Care This is a work-related qualifi cation which develops themes required for careers or further study in the rewarding Health and Social Care sector. You will study for two years, taking the Subsidiary Diploma in year 1, which is equivalent to one A Level. If you achieve a merit in year 1 you can continue for a further year to a full Extended Diploma which expands the specialist work-related focus of year 1 and is equivalent to 2 A Levels.
Core units include: Effective Communication in Health and Social Care, Equality, Diversity and Rights, Health, Safety and Security, Human Lifespan Development, Anatomy and Physiology and Personal and Professional Development.
The course runs three days a week for one year. You will also work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English, and there are optional classes for those wanting to achieve GCSE English, maths and science. In both years you will do work experience placements requiring a CRB check (see page 10).
Entry requirements: College assessment or 4 GCSEs grade A-C or BTEC Level 2 in Health and Social Care (merit). Entry is to year 1 only.
Possible next steps: HNC/D which we offer at the College or employment.
