English This is an essential English qualifi cation for many career paths and further study. There are four pieces of written coursework and four speaking and listening exercises in the fi rst term. The rest of the year is spent preparing for two exams which involves reading and writing for practical purposes, understanding poetry and descriptive writing.


Entry requirements: Recent evidence of grade D or above at GCSE and/or written assessment.

Maths This course gives you a key qualifi cation for life and work. It is offered at intermediate (max grade B) and higher level (max grade A*). There are two pieces of coursework: algebraic investigation and a data handling project. Exam topics include shape and space, number, algebra and statistics.


Entry requirements: Pass at initial College assessment and/or pre-GCSE maths.

At HCC, students improve their GCSE grades and progress to great things!


Physics This course can only be taken as part of the GCSE combined programme; so you must also study Biology and Chemistry GCSE. It is not possible to study this as a stand-alone option. This course looks at the applications of physics, including space, the earth, electronic systems and particles.


Entry requirements: College interview and assessment and two GCSEs at grade D.
