Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Art and Design This one-year course will develop your creative and technical skills. You will study the formal elements of art and design (form, line, tone, texture and colour). At the beginning of the course you will complete a six-week induction where you’ll study a range of skills using two and three dimensional media including: drawing, painting, textiles, fashion, sculpture, 3D design, moving image, interactive media, digital media and the history of art and design. At the end of this induction you will be given the option to choose art, fashion or media as your specialist pathway for the rest of the course. The course includes practical projects, written work and off-site gallery visits and research. You’ll be expected to devote some of your spare time to further develop your skills and expertise.


Entry requirements: You will be expected to present a sample of your work and have 4 GCSEs at grade A-E including English and maths. Where appropriate, you may undertake a College assessment.

Level 3 BTEC Extended


Diploma in Art and Design This two-year course allows you to study a broad range of two and three dimensional art disciplines representing the major career pathways in art and design - leading to increased specialisation in your chosen subject in the second year. You will build skills in the use of the visual language through subjects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, fashion and textiles, sculpture, 3-D design, graphic design and digital media. We place a strong emphasis on developing ideas and engagement with historical and contemporary art practice - with visits to museums and galleries and the opportunity to participate in ‘live’ projects with professional art practitioners as well as a study trip abroad.


Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade A-C. Plus, in addition to showing a genuine interest in the subject, you will need to show a sample of your work.


Possible next steps: Art and Design HNC/D course which we offer at the College or degree courses such as: graphic design, product design, textile design, fi ne art, interactive media and interior design.
