Diversey Certifies Building Service Contractors for Day Cleaning with Comprehensive HHPC Day™ Training Program
Diversey extends commitment to sustainable day cleaning with training program for BSCs
Sealed Air’s Diversey business an-
nounced that five leading Building Service Contractors (BSCs) completed its recent HHPC Day™ Training Academy held in Sturtevant, Wis. The three-day event cul- minated on Sept. 13 and brought cleaning industry experts and BSCs together for formal training and certification. The new- ly-certified BSCs include The Budd Group and Image Property Services. Harvard Maintenance, GCA Services Group and St. Moritz Building Services also certified additional employees for regions through- out the United States. With the help of experienced facility managers, industry consultants and Di- versey’s in-house cleaning experts, attend- ees at the HHPC Day Academy learned how to implement and manage their own day cleaning programs using a Healthy High Performance Cleaning (HHPC) sys- tem. Becoming a HHPC Day Certified Contractor allows BSCs to offer their cus- tomers sustainable building maintenance, leading to energy savings and improved productivity.
The system also benefits
employee morale by transitioning cleaning from late-night shifts to daytime hours. “The HHPC Day Academy pulled to- gether a wealth of relevant and compre- hensive knowledge about day cleaning,” said
program attendee Michael Scott,
Director of Operations for Image Prop- erty Services. “It was truly one of the best seminars I’ve attended and I left feeling like a day cleaning expert by the end of
the program.” The most recent event included an ex-
tensive agenda that covered more than 20 topics. Sessions provided in-depth detail regarding day cleaning for green build- ings, reducing cost and maximizing qual- ity, developing an action plan for success and more. HHPC Day Certified Contractors utilize toolkits that include operations and staff training materials, online training courses, marketing materials and client communi- cations to accelerate the adoption of day cleaning programs. Diversey will offer ad- ditional HHPC Day Academy sessions in 2013. “Providing participants with the keys to a successful day cleaning program helps BSCs jumpstart their own day cleaning efforts, allowing them to meet their cli- ents’ needs while improving employee at- titudes,” said Rob Kohlhagen, Executive Director of the HHPC Day Academy. “The HHPC Day Academy accomplishes this by combining comprehensive information sessions with training from industry lead- ers. It is our mission to help our partner BSCs build the capability to effectively implement, manage and market day clean- ing programs.” Diversey is a business of Sealed Air
Corp., a leader in food safety and security, facility hygiene and product protection. For more information about Diversey, visit www.diversey.com
Ashkin Group Releases Urgent
E-Blast Regarding LEED Urges Industry to Sign Letter of Support for LEED
The Ashkin Group, the leading advo- cates for Green and sustainable cleaning in the professional cleaning and building industries, has released an urgent notice to thousands of subscribers to its Destina- tionGreen newsletter. The e-blast calls on “friends, support- ers, and allies to express support for the continued use of the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system by the U.S. General Service Ad- ministration (GSA).” According to Stephen Ashkin, Presi-
dent of The Ashkin Group and “father” of the Green Cleaning movement, misin- formation about the proposed changes to the LEED rating system, known as v4, has resulted in pressure on the GSA to possi- bly discontinue the use of the LEED rating system.
“This could prove economically det- rimental to a great number of companies within the Green building industry, in- cluding many [in the jansan industry] who have invested heavily in Green Cleaning products and services,” says Ashkin. As Ashkin explains, LEED has played an undeniable role in helping the GSA
save taxpayer money managing its more than 14 million square feet of office and work space while also helping to protect the environment and promote sustainabil- ity.
For example, the GSA has accom- plished the following in its facilities: · Reduced overall emissions by 20 per- cent· Reduced energy intensity by 20 per- cent*· Cut water use by 14 percent since 2007· Significantly improved energy ef- ficiency
“The LEED program has aided in the
development of better products, better de- signs, better engineering, and better build- ings,” says Ashkin. “This saves U.S. taxpayers and busi- nesses millions of dollars annually and is one reason why [so] many Fortune 100 companies are using LEED to reduce [op- erating] costs and resources every day.” The Ashkin Group is asking members of the professional cleaning and building industries to show support for LEED by signing a “support the USGBC letter” to- day.
“It will demonstrate our industries’ and our communities’ strength and commit- ment to LEED,” says Ashkin. n
