Staff Development Staff Development 12/13 and the Change Programme

The past couple of years have seen a great deal of work undertaken to understand the perspectives of students and staff about life at CCCU, as well as to assess the likely impact of changes across the sector and to plan for meeting these changes – while being ambitious in our agenda to improve the student and staff experience.

Some of these plans relate to activity set out as part of the Change Programme and many have people management and development implications.

The Culture, Leadership and Management Project in particular is focused on delivering high quality, consistent leadership and management in line with our values. This project includes a Leadership and Management Development Programme that is designed to support the sharing of good practice and the building of common understanding of the behaviour, skills and knowledge involved in leading and managing, some of which have been identified as a result of the 2011 Staff Survey, staff conferences and our 2012 Investors in People Assessment. This programme will initially be for senior staff.

The project also includes activity aimed at changing the culture of the organisation where we need to address issues raised by students or staff. This activity will include a shadowing scheme to build better cross-organisational understanding, wider use of action learning sets and improved induction.

There are also changes planned for academic development, particularly in relation to the HEA Academic Framework and increased opportunities for staff accreditation in learning and teaching as well as development linked to implementation of the new VLE – CLIC Learn. These areas are also linked to projects as part of the Change Programme so there is a great deal to do and we will need to be sure that we keep staff updated and informed.

Some of this development is still at the planning stage, as it is important we get it right and are also able to flex provision as we move through this academic year to best meet your needs. This publication therefore lists some but by no means all of the development that will be provided over the course of the year and we will keep you updated via the Staff Development webpages (see link below) and the Change Programme project pages accessible via StaffNET.

The full Leadership and Management programme will be published separately in due course.
