Leaders and Managers

As stated on page 4, 2012/13 will see a particular focus on leadership and management development through the Culture, Leadership and Management project of the Change Programme. For full details, visit the Staff Development or Change Programme webpages.

If you are a manager or leader and would like to discuss your development needs, you can contact us to discuss these. In addition to courses, you may also wish to consider the additional suggestions set out on this page. The Professional Development Toolkit (see page 16) also provides resources on a range of topics.

Additional Support for Leaders and Managers

Mentoring and Coaching

Those in a leadership role, especially those new to role, can also request mentoring or coaching sessions either with an experienced internal colleague or with a mentor/coach from a recognised external source (dependent on funding).

Action Learning Sets

The action learning process uses the combined experience of set members to help individual managers solve a problem, or achieve a personal or professional goal. Action Learning Sets are currently in place for established and new HODS. To find out more or to join a group, contact Tracy Bell-Reeves, Human Resources and Organisational Development.

Team Development and Away Days

We can help to support teams undergoing change, moving on to new projects or seeking to operate more effectively. We can also help teams build better understanding with tools such as ‘Belbin Team Roles’ assessment, Myers Briggs or TMSDI or support development such as process mapping or service improvements.

email: staff.development@canterbury.ac.uk. External Courses

Staff Development manage a small fund to support senior leaders who wish to access external leadership development. This can be an important aspect of your development, providing an alternative perspective.

We are also members of the Leadership Foundation, who provide sector-specific courses at both operational and strategic levels. See www.lfhe.ac.uk
