Introduction to Quantitative Research Methods Brief outline:


This workshop will help researchers to develop a deeper understanding of qualitative research methods; to examine critically a range of theoretical positions in relation to research and evaluation; to understand and evaluate approaches to researching a wide range of issues and be able to apply this understanding to their own professional work.

Data Collection and Research Ethics Brief outline:


This workshop will concentrate on reflecting upon the technical and practical challenges of gaining access to vital data, archives, research subjects and populations, and locations, together with establishing and maintaining relationships throughout the research period to ensure consistent and high quality evidence and data. Part of the session will review the ethics of proposed data collection methods, and attendees will be introduced to the formal institutional research ethics guidelines.

Qualitative Research Methods Brief outline:


These weekly workshops aim to assist researchers in developing a deeper understanding of qualitative research methods; to examine critically a range of theoretical positions in relation to research and education; to understand and evaluate approaches to researching a wide range of issues; and to apply this understanding of approaches and techniques to their own work. They offer an opportunity to gain an appreciation of the basic principles of qualitative research design and the methods and the skills involved in gathering and analysing qualitative information.

Quantitative Research Methods Brief outline:


These weekly workshops aim to assist researchers to develop a deeper understanding of quantitative research methods; to examine critically a range of theoretical positions in relation to research and evaluation; to understand and evaluate approaches to researching a wide range of issues; and to apply this understanding to approaches and techniques in their own work. They will enable delegates to critically read statistical research reports, and to make appropriate use of principles of statistical research design and analysis and statistical software packages, whilst giving due consideration to qualitative aspects of analysis.
