Provides an introduction to research for those just starting out. Offers the opportunity to discuss some of the key issues regarding qualities needed to carry out personal academic research effectively and to receive practical advice from Library colleagues (User Services).

Introduction to Research Theory Brief outline:
Introduces a number of important philosophical themes concerned with research epistemology and ontology, addressing some fundamental questions concerning structure and limits of knowledge, theory, truth and reality relevant to and applicable across the many different research disciplines.

Bibliographic Skills Brief outline:
Introduces all researchers to CCCU library resources, online bibliographic sources, Refworks, subscribed online journals, databases, web of knowledge, theses, web-based research techniques as well as research management, bibliographic management software and database management.

Introduction to Research Design Brief outline:
Provides research students with the opportunity to discover a range of research design strategies, and to broaden their understanding of how to rigorously include, select and justify the appropriate research design for specific types of research projects. Research students will also be able to learn from presentations by academic researchers across different disciplines, and to share their own experience of formulating research questions and reflections upon choosing the appropriate research methodology.

Research Methods: Arts & Humanities Brief outline:
Provides an introduction to research methods utilised within Arts and Humanities, including approaching texts, archives, artefacts and other evidence and will aid researchers to approach the research field more critically and theoretically, and recognise the value of disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity.

Literature Searching & Review Brief outline:
Provides all researchers with an opportunity to reflect on the critical role of literature search & review in different forms of research, accessing relevant literature (in printed or electronic form) in the specific content area, methodology and epistemology. Session also offers an opportunity to receive practical advice from Library colleagues regarding CCCU library resources, online bibliographic sources, Refworks, subscribed online journals, databases, web of knowledge, theses, web- based research techniques as well as bibliographic management software and database management.
