Learning and Teaching CPD Assessment for Learning: Engaging Students with Feedback Brief outline:

Academic staff put significant effort into providing students with feedback on assessed work. The University is committed to providing timely feedback; however research into students’ use of feedback shows this is somewhat limited. Feedback is only effective if it can actually make a change! What strategies can Tutors use to provide feedback that can be acted on? How can we educate and develop students’ understanding of feedback to enable them to make effective use of it?

The workshop will explore the dimensions of student’s response to feedback and interrogate strategies from the sector, which Tutors can use to promote student engagement with feedback and thus improve learning.

What you can expect to learn:

• Themes emerging from research into students’ use of feedback • Student and staff perception on feedback • Providing feed-forward responses to students’ work

• High and low level feedback - sustainable practice in assessment and feedback

• How to engage students with feedback
