MA Education (HE)
This pathway enables Academic staff to pursue their scholarly and research interest in HE pedagogy by undertaking credit-bearing modules which will, upon completion, culminate in an award of diploma in Education (HE) or full MA Education (HE). The pathway may be of particular interest to Academic staff without a masters qualification, or who wish to supplement their existing academic subject related masters.
The programme may also interest Academic staff considering undertaking a PhD with an HE pedagogical focus.
What does it cover? The pathway has three parts:
Stage one: 60 Masters level credits PGCLT (HE) award or equivalent.
Stage two: 60 Masters credits
Stage three: 60 Masters credits: dissertation on an HE dedicated theme.
What are the entry requirements?
All participants should have a degree or equivalent level of qualification, be teaching on a Christ Church validated award and would normally have already completed the PGCLT (HE) award, or similar.
When does it run?
The pathway will be taught flexibly as cohorts are formed and in conjunction with the PGCLT (HE) programme, which runs on Wednesdays between 4.30pm and 7.30pm during term time.

Teaching Large Groups - The Core Lecture
What you can expect to learn: • Advantages and disadvantages of lectures as a mode of teaching • Psychology and etiquette of lecturing praxis • Group work and interactivity in the lecture room • The role of audiovisual and other technologies in lectures • The lecture “theatre”; lecturing as performance and edification • What not to do when you lecture… • Lecturing from the learner’s perspective • “Smart” lecturing • Coping with lecturing nerves and “difficult” audiences.

Assessing and Examining: The University’s Approach to Quality and Standards Target audience:
All Academic staff with responsibility as Examiners needing to understand the regulations and conventions that support our assessment processes. Staff may be new to HE, or to the University or have recently taken a greater responsibility for assessment within their department/programme.
NB: Staff undertaking the PGCLT(HE) or Associate Tutors course will cover this as part of their course.
Brief outline:
This workshop will cover University policies, regulations and procedures with regard to assessment, examination and marking, including the role of Assessors in examination boards; how the regulations support consistency and fairness in assessment; practical advice on good practice and current developments in assessment/providing effective feedback.
