Postgraduate Qualification in Learning and Teaching for HE – Associate Tutor


What is the Associate Tutor Award?


A postgraduate qualification in learning and teaching aimed at part-time and sessional HE staff and those working on collaborative programmes from other institutions. It carries 20 credits at Masters level. It is equivalent to one-third of the full PGCLT (HE) and advanced standing on the latter can be awarded to those who successfully complete the award and secure Christ Church teaching contracts of 0.5 or above (or equivalent).


Who is it for?


• Sessional or fractional Academic staff employed with a contract between 0.1 - 0.5 FTE


• Staff employed by another institution (mainly FECs), delivering HE work on a Christ Church validated programme


• PhD students at the University who may be undertaking some teaching.


What are the entry requirements?


Normally, all candidates should have a degree or equivalent level of qualification and be working on a Christ Church HE validated programme.


What does it cover?


• Part one (10 credits) - Introduction to Learning and Teaching in HE


• Part two (10 credits) - Curriculum Assessment and Quality Assurance.


What support is there?


• Course Tutors to assist with assessment and monitor progress • Course Mentor to assist with discipline specific curriculum issues and to undertake observations and reviews of teaching.


Length of course?


Flexible short-course able to be completed in one academic year. Exit can be at any point, with re-entry at a later stage, if appropriate.


When does it run?


Usually two one day workshops, supported with on-line materials and individual mentor support. The workshops will run at times and places negotiated with each group.
