PRINCE2® Project Management What is PRINCE2®?


PRINCE2® is a structured method for effective project management and is the standard used by Government Departments and the NHS. It is particularly useful for those staff working regularly in project management.


The University offers PRINCE2® training courses through the Department of Leadership and Management which charges a fee for attendance, which will be charged to department budgets. This event is run at Salomons.


There are 3 options:


• Overview of PRINCE2® - one day introductory course • PRINCE2® Project Management Foundation Level - three day course


• PRINCE2® Project Management Foundation Level - five day course

Microsoft Project Target audience:


Those responsible for organising, administrating and managing projects who wish to use the enhanced features of MS Project 2007 to setup, monitor and control their project activities.


What you can expect to learn:


• Defining project information and identifying project objectives • Working with calendars, setting up tasks and durations • Organising and scheduling tasks and milestones • Establishing task dependencies to creating a critical path • Using Gantt charts • How to track progress and use baselines • Establishing project costs.


Note: No previous knowledge of MS Project 2007 is required but some experience of project work is recommended. Places are limited.

Enhancing Career Prospects Brief outline:


This two-day workshop is designed to support staff who may be considering new challenges. It covers general career planning advice and tips; expert guidance on presenting yourself in the best way on paper and in person and how to deal with interviews to impress the panel. You need to attend both sessions.


What you can expect to learn:


• Evaluating your future options • Promoting yourself and networking • Writing CV’s and application forms • Applying for internal vacancies • Having impact in interviews

Pre-Retirement - Essential Information Brief outline:


This one-day workshop is designed for people who are considering retirement within the next year or so.


What you will learn:


• Challenges and opportunities of retirement • Health and fitness in retirement • Basics of the State Pension and entitlements • Financial planning and making a will
