& BRENNAN SCHMIDT July 7, 2012 (7/7 at 7PM! We like sevens.) Garden and Pavilion VI on UVA’s East Lawn

Our love story: God truly had a plan for us-- so many individual decisions led both of us back to UVA for graduate school. We each left jobs and relocated back to Charlottesville, choosing to live in the University’s original housing, the Range in Jefferson’s academical village. Sarah first met Brennan one evening on the Range at a meeting of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society. She came for the rigorous intellectual debate, and Brennan, for the free food! Immediately they clicked, and although the meeting was brief, made a lasting impression. Sarah called her mom the next morning and gushed, “I’ve met the man of my dreams!” The craziness of football season (Brennan had a job on Coach London’s coaching staff) meant that the two didn’t see each other for the rest of fall semester, but the first week back in the spring, again the two were brought back together for a cocktail party on the Range. They began talking, which ended up lasting five hours, getting to know one another, laughing, and having the first of many kisses. That night was January 25th, 2011, and less than six months later, Brennan proposed!

Standout detail: When our DJ “scratched” the music during our first dance-- all of our guests were freaking out, then he tossed us two mics and we broke into a phenomenal karaoke rendition of Grease’s “Summer Loving”! It was the best guest-prank ever!

On the menu: We didn’t go with a traditional caterer, but instead used a local Charlottesville favorite, Jink’s Pit Stop BBQ, whose sliders were delicious! We also had a variety of cupcakes instead of cake. Sarah helped to create a signature cocktail for the rehearsal dinner at The Local, a “Red, White and I’ll Be True”-- a pomegranate martini with a blueberry garnish, a perfect fit for our Americana theme.

First dance song: Phil Wickham, “You’re Beautiful”

What’s next? We both began new jobs this summer, Brennan as the kitchen manager at Bella’s Italian Restaurant and Sarah as the tasting room manager for Trump Winery. We just moved into a Belmont apartment, and have loved walking to Fridays after Five, the C’ville City Market, and the Downtown Mall almost daily. We’re excited to continue enjoying married life in Charlottesville through the fall.
