Personally I never let myself get in that position as when I was in the team I always would look at who was behind me. It is a challenge to get that spot but it would be a huge achievement”.

not here for just six months”. Hodson came to the Vic as a product of the much revered youth setup at Borehamwood FC, who have since gained promotion to the Conference South for the first time in their history. Despite his abilities at the back the 20-year-old first caught the eye of Hornets scouts as a striker, regularly notching 40 or 50 goals a season.

“The gaffer now has his philosophies and theories on how he wants us to play,” he said. “He wants us to play football and keep it on the floor, everyone is happy with that at the club. We are doing a lot of work on the training pitch to correct the results and get some points. The owners have said that this is a long term project and they are not here for just six months”.

Doyley was Zola's early season first choice at right-back.

“It is a big jump from Sunday league football to the academy but after joining Watford I still did well up front,” he said. “When playing against Spurs in a game our right-back got injured so I was asked to do a job there. After that I was told I could make it as a right-back and I just stuck there.”

“Sometimes I’d love to get another chance to go up front and I’d fancy myself to get a few goals,” he joked. “From here I’d just like to get another goal as Lloyd (Doyley) is now ahead of me, I’m starting to feel the pressure!”
