Penning’s House Notes

A summons to see the PM I have had a fantastic two and a half years at the

Department for Transport and have enjoyed the role immensely, but I was delighted to get the call to see the Prime Minister at Downing Street on the day of the reshuffle.

Especially as I was invited to come in by the front door – usually a sign that it will not be bad news.

My promotion to Minister of State for Northern

Ireland is a great honour and I am looking forward to all the new challenges. Minister of State is the middle of the three ‘ranks’ of Government Minister.

Having served in the province in the 1970s, I am very pleased that I will be able to help to fulfil the Good Friday peace agreement.

A big thank you to everyone who has sent their good wishes.

Congratulations to Hemel Lions

I was delighted to be invited to join Hemel Lions to celebrate their raising an incredible £50,000 from their bookshop in the Marlowes Centre. Te money

raised is given to good causes – mostly local. On the day I visited, club president Barbara Daniels presented cheques to Hemel Warriors Football Club and also to Barbara Gatehouse whose son Jack suffers chronic health problems including epilepsy.

If you’ve never visited, I suggest you do! Tey are also keen to recruit new volunteers so if you are interested in helping out locally why not pop in to the bookshop for a chat.
