Local fitness guru raises £500 for charity on three peaks challenge

A

local fitness fanatic donned her walking shoes for a gruelling 18 mile challenge last month.

Sandra Harnett, who runs Rosemary Conley fitness classes in Hemel Hempstead, completed the Tree Peaks of the Chilterns Charity Walk on Sunday, September 16.

She took on the challenge to raise money for Iain

Rennie Grove House Hospice and completed the trek in just under six hours.

Sandra was joined by four Rosemary Colony members that she had helped to lose weight.

She told My Hemel & Leverstock Green News: “I always feel like a very proud parent when we do these events. I wanted to set myself a personal challenge this year and what better way than to raise money for a local charity. I took the idea in to my classes to see if any of my members wanted to join myself and my husband who agreed, under protest, to do it with me.”

Sandra said the toughest part of the walk was the last mile and a half because their legs had seized up after a

water break.

“We all also suffered blisters and our feet were definitely hurting at this point,” she added.

“It really is a beautiful walk along the Ridgeway and it was great to see an area that I had never been to before.”

Te most memorable moment for Sandra was the finish where the group celebrated with champagne and all had smiles on their faces despite their aches and pains.

She commented: “I was so proud of my members. Tey had achieved so much and this time last year never dreamt that they would be hiking 18 miles in one day.”

Te group raised around £500 and Sandra is planning to take part other charity events in the near future including a climb of Ben Nevis.
