1960s
In the early 1960s women’s clothing was very conservative. They would wear dresses above the ankle with two inch heels. Men would usually wear black and blue suits to show professionalism. During this era, the United States was in war with Vietnam. The protests of the counterculture movement began challenging this dress.
1970s
At this time fashion became relaxed, easy and inexpensive for both women and men. During this time, president Richard M. Nixon was involved in a scandal ,which made him resign his position. This scandal lead to riots at the Columbia University.
1980s
During parts of this time America went through economic crisis and economic boom. Many people were effected by the economy and either couldn’t afford many things or lived in excess, so they came up with creative ways to style themselves. They wore bright colors, animal prints and wild hair.
1990s
In this time, both men and women would mix different prints together to put into one outfit. Some wore grunge or plaid mixes of flannels while others wore vibrant colors. This was the time of Bill CLinton and changing music in both rock and rap genres.
2000- In
Today, fashion has changed with the world. During this time, the first African- American president(Obama) was elected. We mix modern with vintage. Our jeans aren’t only for guys, but they are for girls too.
It is not just
fashion. It’s a way of expression.
