V– Verification

At some point you will be selected for a CPD audit by CARB and you will be asked to provide some evidence to back up what you submit in your CPD plan/record. Proving you were at a course or got a new qualification is easy (don’t throw away those technical notes, they are evidence!), but what about other types of CPD?

Here are some examples we’ve seen from members who have been through an audit:

• Letter of advice or minutes of a meeting with an advisor e.g. from an auditor or solicitor.

• Minutes of meetings with colleagues or peers where there was a technical discussion.

• Research papers/file notes. • Publication of an article (that required research or advice). • On the job training from your manager.

• Practice inspections (CARB or another Body) or pre- reviews (Practice Consulting or other provider) where you were involved.

• Assessments or sign-offs by regulators or speciality organisation (e.g. government review of licensed banks) where you were involved.

Mostly it is about taking the time to think about what you learned during the year, how you learned it and, most importantly, is there anyone or way to verify this. If you did learn something valuable to your role that you cannot independently verify, then this falls into the unstructured category. If you are in any doubt then why not give us a call, we would be delighted to chat you through it.
