The Blues (and Jazz) Patrol Sunbury

Sunbury has been treated to a selection of fabulous music evenings at the Sunbury Cricket Club recently. In August, I went to see Blues Patrol, a popular band which play a highly accessible blend of blues and R&B. It was knock out and Andy Roberts’ rich tones and energy had us up danc- ing and demanding more. It was a pity there was not a larger crowd, but the band were competing with Olympics and Summer Holidays! In September we saw the return of the ever popular Albert Skinner Jazz evenings with local Sunbury star Tony Kinsey. One of the godfathers of post-war British modern jazz , Tony laid on a superb evening with his quintet. September also sawthe welcome return of Paul Cox who I re- viewed last year with Charlie Fabert. True talent, in the heart of Sunbury. Many locals still don’t realise that we have this rich offering of musical entertainment on our doorstep, usually for only £5. Add to that the reasonable drink prices at the SCC, and it really makes for a good night out. For more information keep an eye on the LOSRA web- site (www.losra.org) or contact Paul Watts for more details: paulwatts1946@googlemail.com and ask to be added to the mailing list.
