BRAC benefits from Guild event

The Staffordshire branch of the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs recently raised more than £1300 at a spe- cial event held in aid of BRAC’s Vision Bangladesh Campaign, which aims to eradicate blindness in Sylhet. The event was attended by Walsall’s deputy mayor Mohammed Nazir, Abdul Azad, chairman of Bangla Kagoz, Mustaffa Juboraj, a local radio presenter, mem- bers of the executive committee of the Staffordshire region and prominent local business leaders.

At the end of the evening a cheque was presented to Tanha Habib on behalf of BRAC by the deputy mayor. Afterwards,

Imam Uddin, president of the Guild’s Staffordshire branch commended BRAC for the innovation behind the ‘£1.00 on the bill campaign’ which has been a huge success .

However he added, “Restaurateurs are reluctant to change the balance of things in case it hurts their already volatile trade. For this reason the Guild has felt that it may not be the best of times to ask the wider membership to participate in this campaign, but I hope other regions will follow us in helping this worthwhile charity as a group.”
