At nine meters long and including eight pans, Benny T’s has taken delivery of Preston and Thomas’s biggest ever island range


Benny T’s opened almost eight years ago and in that time has become known for producing the nation’s favourite meal, fish and chips, but with a contemporary twist. Its owners believe that sourcing fresh fish daily and using high quality produce is the key to a delicious meal and they are very aware that they must remain focused on the business to maintain the reputation that they have. “We are constantly looking to update and reinvest in our business,” says one of Benny T’s directors, Mark Mulholland. “Last year the restaurant underwent a refurbishment and this year we moved our attention to the kitchen and takeaway area. We have a great number of regular customers and we believe it’s important for them to see us constantly developing both our product and the business as a whole.” A vast chunk of the investment in the takeaway went into a


new frying range – an impressive eight pan bespoke Preston and Thomas. The largest island range ever produced by the Cardiff- based company in its 99 year history, it measures nine meters long. Replacing an old eight pan range, this new model enables Benny


T’s to serve more food, more quickly, as Mark explains. “Whereas before we had four square and four round pans, this time we have gone for eight square pans, so the capacity is actually bigger.” With the purchase of a new range presenting an ideal opportunity

to improve the layout and flow of the operation, its owners were keen to introduce a number of additional features, including a prep station to service the restaurant. “We had a number of ideas that we wanted to include and Simon


Preston was very happy to sit down with us and come up with a solution that we wanted,” adds Mark. “As a result, not only is the range working extremely well, but so too is the layout while the extra capacity is great for keeping us up to speed in the restaurant and the takeaway.” Building the piece of kit took months of careful planning and many visits between Cardiff and Falkirk to ensure the new range met the very specific criteria set out by Benny T’s. Mark adds: “We know our business well and we know the quality of product that our customer expects from us, so it was essential that we found a company that shared our attention to detail. We regard the frying range as the engine room of the business so we had to make sure that it not only boasts the latest technology but that it can also take the pace of the business.”
