PRODUCT NEWS IBC SPECIAL PANASONIC ADDS TO AVCCAM RANGE


Panasonic has unveiled the AG-AC90, the latest camcorder in its AVCCAM range of ‘affordable HD’ devices. It is equipped with three 1/4.7-type CMOS sensors and is the first camera to feature Panasonic’s AVCCAM HD PS recording mode at 28Mbps 60p. It shoots 1920 x 1080 at 60p, 60i, 30p and 24p, and records to dual SD card slots, which support SDXC, SDHC and SD memory cards. Audio options include two-channel XLR inputs with individual level controls and input selection. The camera has an HDMI output, a USB connector and a 3.5-inch touch- panel LCD monitor. It will be priced at just over £1,400 and will be available from October.

AJA will show off its 4K workflows and Thunderbolt-enabled kit in Amsterdam. It is also promising “several new technologies” involving the firm’s OEM partners, together with new products in its Ki Pro, Io, Kona and converter product lines. AJA’s most recently announced products – T-Tap, which was launched at NAB in April, together with its Ki Pro Rack and Ki Pro Quad – will be on display at IBC. The Ki Pro Quad, which was also unveiled in Las Vegas, supports 4K, 2K, dual-link HD, 3G and HD, as well as support for 4K Apple ProRes from the upcoming Canon C500. n Hall 7 Stand F11


AVID DEMOS INTERPLAY SPHERE


Avid will demonstrate what it describes as the largest range of integrated production technology it has ever presented at the Amsterdam trade show. The Burlington- headquartered firm will give a European debut to its cloud-based editing system Interplay Sphere, as well as details of early adopters of the software. Updates to the company’s asset-based workflow solutions will include a new Avid Interplay MAM package, Interplay Central cloud-enabled

AUTODESK CELEBRATES FLAME


Autodesk is set to celebrate the 20th anni- versary of its Flame software and showcase the latest version of Flame Premium, its 3D finishing package, in Amsterdam. Smoke 2013, its overhauled non-linear editing software, will also be on show, together with the latest versions of its Entertainment Creation Suites. n Hall 7 Stand D25


Ericsson will unveil the world’s first HEVC H.265 encoder for the delivery of live and linear TV over mobile networks at IBC. Eric- sson said its SVP 5500 HEVC encoder will significantly reduce bandwidth requirements and will address the “immediate need for new video compression solutions that enable high-quality pictures over mobile networks, while keeping bandwidth and storage costs as low as possible”. High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) promises to reduce the bandwidth requirements for video delivery by 50% compared with H.264/MPEG-4 AVC systems. n Hall 1 Stand D61


GRASS VALLEY UPGRADES KIT


Grass Valley will introduce upgrades to its portfolio of cameras, slow-motion replay sys- tems, production switchers, media servers, networked storage and routing switchers at IBC.
