Broadcast TECH IBC SPECIAL Canon adds compact EOS option
Canon has added a third camera to its Cinema EOS range with the launch of the EOS C100, a com- pact video camera based on the firm’s C300 device. Canon said the C100, which is 15% smaller than the C300, has a range of automatic features suited to documentary-makers, news shooters or videographers. The camera has an inter-
changeable EF mount lens system and Canon’s Super 35mm 8.3MP Bayer-filtered CMOS sensor. It shoots AVCHD, with the CMOS sensor recording 1920 x 1080 resolution at 24Mbps with 4:2:0 colour sampling. It cap- tures 24/25/30p and 50/60i frame rates and has an ISO range of 320-20,000. The camera can record to two
SD card slots simultaneously or separately, switching between
check focus, with the central image area automatically con- firmed before recording. A firmware update in 2013 will add support for continuous automatic focus and iris adjustment. ‘Push Auto Iris’ evaluates exposure and makes any required adjustments before shooting, while ‘Auto White Balance’ uses Canon’s Digic DV III image proc- essor to detect and balance col- our information. A stereo microphone is built into
the camera’s detachable handle, alongside audio control dials and two XLR outputs. The camera’s automatic func- tions include an auto focus but- ton that will enable users to

Sony has unveiled the NEX- EA50EH, the latest addition to its range of NXCAM devices. The camera’s Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor enables 1080 progressive and inter- lace recording with 60/50Hz selection (50p/25p/50i or 60p/30p/24p/60i). It also cap- tures 16.1 megapixel stills and has a built-in mechanical shutter. Sony said the form factor will
allow users to switch between handheld and shoulder configu- rations without extra accessories. The camera will cost just under £3,000 and will be available from October. See page 12 for more. n Hall 12 Stand A10
