PRODUCT ANATOMY SONY NEX-EA50EH


Sony’s NEX-EA50EH is the latest addition to its NXCAM range of devices. With its large format sensor, compact body and sub-£3,000 price tag, the camcorder looks like a potential rival to video-capable DSLRs from the likes of Canon and Nikon. It features an APS-C HD CMOS sensor, an


interchangeable E-mount lens system, two-channel XLR audio, linear PCM audio, time code and built-in GPS. Sony Europe strategic marketing manager


Bill Drummond said: “This all-in-one camcorder brings a new level of creativity to a wider range of professional users than ever


before. It combines affordability and high performance with a range of versatile, professional features for many applications, including event production, budget movie-making and corporate production.” The camera will cost just under £3,000 and will be available from October.


SENSOR


The large format APS-C HD CMOS sensor allows a shallow depth of fi eld. The camera shoots 1920 x 1080 AVCHD with 60/50Hz selection (50p/25p/50i or 60p/30p/24p/60i).


MEMORY AND OUTPUT


Sony’s HXR-FMU128 fl ash memory unit docks with the camcorder to back up fi les. The camcorder is compatible with Sony’s new Mirroring Memory Stick, which is said to be the world’s fi rst memory card to feature a dual-record function. The memory card will be available in three different sizes: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.


DISPLAY AND VIEWFINDER


The camera has a built-in 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD panel with an aspect ratio of 16:9. It also has a viewfi nder tube for the LCD screen.
