Monster Catcher is a matching game for 2-4 players that will help children develop counting skills and turn-taking, and encourage social interaction. It also links to the National Curriculum and Early Learning Goals. The winner is the player who collects the most completed monsters, being careful that the Monster Catcher doesn’t sweep them up in his net before the end of the game. Jigsaw puzzle Jungle Express is the first product

illustrated by one of Orchard Toys’ two new illustrators, Rowena Cooper. It’s a brightly-coloured 30-piece puzzle depicting jungle animals and their offspring on the jungle express train. Again, this is a learning puzzle that links to Early Learning Goals and the National Curriculum Key Stage 1, designed to develop number and fine motor skills. It comes with a talk-about section on the back of the box to help children observe animals and objects in the jigsaw, encouraging them to compare, discuss and investigate. Both releases have brightly-coloured characters and easy-to-grip pieces that are designed to appeal to the three plus age group, and the wipe- clean surfaces will definitely appeal to their mothers.

Flair

Flair’s new board game based on the hit Nickelodeon TV show is the first House of Anubis product in the toy category in the UK. The game board echoes the English boarding school from the series. Each of the rooms and corridors is pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle and the complexity of the game and level of strategy can be varied, so the game is different every time. The aim of the game is to collect the hieroglyph tokens whilst avoiding the creepy caretaker and other pitfalls along the way. The first player to collect six tokens and get back to their bed is the winner. Action cards drawn on each turn can either help players pick up tokens more easily or be used to obstruct opponents.
