A trio of Kestrel managers hope to reach new heights of athletic achievement at this year’s Virgin Active London Triathalon.

While the world is glued to the London Olympics, Simon Reynolds, Laurence Hicks and Mike Payne face a gruelling

summer of training getting ready for the event. As part of the Roofing Racers team, they hope to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond St Hospital.

Te three, who all took part in last year’s triathalon, plan to improve upon their 2011 times. In particular Kestrel’s business development manager for the North West, Mike Payne, who made the course all the longer and more arduous by mistakenly going around the cycle stage twice.

Kestrel divisional sales manager, north & Ireland, Laurence Hicks said: “I had to wait two and a half hours for Mike to get in. Sadly, there was no extra prize or sponsorship for doing anything twice!” Last year the Roofing Racers team made a combined total of £80,000 for charity and the idea of topping this impressive total has spurred Kestrel sales and marketing director Simon Reynolds to take part again, despite his initial reluctance. Simon said: “After last year’s event I vowed ‘never again’. I may be a glutton for

punishment, but these are such important charities that for better or worse I’ll be there again on September 22.”

Te Virgin Active London

Triathalon will take place on 22nd and 23rd September. Over the two days, Simon, Mike and Laurence will run in Canary Wharf, swim at London’s Docklands and cycle past Big Ben.

SFP, the nationwide insolvency practitioners, has completed the sale of 5 Star Windows and Conservatories Limited after the firm went into administration, saving all eight jobs.

From its base in Kidderminster, 5 Star

Windows and Conservatories Limited specialises in designing and installing UPVC conservatories, glass extensions, orangeries, double glazing windows and UPVC doors throughout the West Midlands and Worcestershire.

Tis is the third case of a glazing firm that SFP has been appointed to handle this year and suggests that the sector is under increasing pressure.

SFP’s Daniel and Simon Plant, both licensed members of the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association, were appointed Joint Administrators on July 24th 2012.

Daniel Plant, Group Partner at SFP, believes that difficulties being experienced in the construction sector have had a direct impact on home improvement firms:

“Te downturn in the economy has caused a knock-on effect to house building and home improvements, and especially the installation of new windows as we have found with the administration of three glazing firms already this year.

“It was unfortunate that 5 Star Windows and Conservatories Limited struggled owing to a lack of cashflow at a critical time. We managed, however, to secure a sale of the business as a going concern, ensuring the preservation of jobs and continuity of supply for its customer base.”
