Community Assistance Program seeks new recruits

Judy Manley, Publicity The CAP team is currently seeking

recruits for a fall training class. Training is tentatively set for the second week of November and is generally held for three consecutive days from four to six hours each day. Attendance at all sessions is required. Interested recruits complete two ride-

alongs before training begins. The ride- alongs are designed to introduce recruits to the program. CAP members will explain the program, familiarize the recruit with the CAP vehicle and equipment, share experiences and answer questions. The recruit will observe CAP members in action

during a typical shift, accompanying the team on all calls. At the completion of training, new CAP

members complete working ride-alongs that emphasize on-the job training. CAP members work two shifts per month

as well as attend the monthly membership meeting on the third Wednesday evening of the month. If you are interested in the program, Judy Gahide at 480-883-

please contact

9000; SunLakesChic@gmail.com or Jim Hecker at 480-802-9951; ColJim7@yahoo. com with your questions. They will also arrange your ride-alongs. 

Childspree 2012 was a huge success

Sandra Iosue Childspree. Do you know what it is?

The Childspree I am talking about took place this year on July 28, 2012, and more than a few Sun Lakes Lions Club members were in attendance. Childspree takes place each year, one

Saturday before school starts. Sun Lakes Charities raises money through its ice cream social and other donors to take children whose parents cannot afford new clothes on a “shopping spree,” during which they each get a set amount to buy some of the clothes they need. The service clubs, such as the Lions, Sun Lakes Charities, etc. supply volunteer adults to

guide the children with their purchases. I had a delightful young lady of 13 to help, and she was quite a thrifty shopper. On behalf of all those involved to make

this endeavor a success, which includes all the people who generously donate and the children who benefi tted from your generosity, thank you all very much! The Sun Lakes Lions Club was

formed in 1985. For the past 27 years we have been a presence in Sun Lakes with our donations to our community. If

you would like to

of this great organization, contact Kay Thayer, membership 480-883-8317. 

be a member director, at

Ballroom. Player fees have been reduced for Oakwood annual golf members, and those fees will be published at a later date. Neighbors Who Care (www.

neighborswhocare.com) is a Sun Lakes based organization that assists Sun Lakes and the surrounding area. Its motto is “Senior independence through volunteer services “ We invite you to Join the Rotary Club.

If you have any questions about the club or should you need more information about the tournament please call Frank at 602-540-5400. 
