A summer to remember!

Although not quite over yet, the new football season is upon us which is always a sign to me that winter is only just around the corner. The common phrase I’ve heard all through this summer is ‘Summer! What summer?’ It’s true to say that this summer has probably been one of the most disappointing in memory for many - if we were judging it just on the weather, but thank goodness for London 2012 and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee!

Looking back over the summer so far (and hopefully we still have a few more weeks left!) it surely also has to be remembered as being one of the most memorable summers this country has ever had and in years to come, many of us will have forgotten the rotten weather and instead will look back with fondness at the events of Summer 2012.

Who could forget the enduring images of London 2012 with some of Britain’s greatest sports men and women proudly singing the national anthem and displaying their medals with an enormous sense of pride, the sense of unity that the country felt as we got behind our sports stars and roared them on to success - whether it be in the stadium itself, down the pub or simply sitting in front of our televisions. The olympic games successfully captured the hearts of even the stoniest sport-loathing individuals!

And who could forget the huge throngs gathering in London in June to celebrate the 60 year reign of Queen Elizabeth - once again the nation was united in it’s celebrations and even the summer rain couldn’t dampen spirits. OK, I accept my barbecue has hardly seen daylight this summer but I wouldn’t trade the events of this damp summer in Great Britain for anything! I hear we’re in for an Indian summer anyway...
