REPORT FLAVOURS FUTURE

Often we hear of an artist who has burst onto the scene... when in fact they have been grinding for some time. The difference between those who make it and those who don’t is often simply about recognising and seizing your opportunity when it comes. Here’s to patience!

but they have also received plaudits from industry heads for their live sets.

Frontmen Thabo Mkwananzi is noted for his killer vocals, which form the gel of the group. Of course gel is nothing if it has nothing to stick to – what keeps this group together is the bond of tight friendship.

Extra Curricular Beautifully dirty!

This Huddersfield band of six are absolutely awesome, bringing eclecticism to their brand of live music. Oscillating with ease between soulful hip-hop vibes to bass music,

EBRU

one minute you have a beatbox-laden track, and next you are catapulted into an immense guitar riff. In this day of infinite access to music, it is harder and harder to forge a fresh sound,

First release ‘Won’t Stay Down’ is a mix of bass music, guitar rock riffs and hip-hop beats that need to be played loud all the way up to ASBO level (that’s loud!). Check the remix by DJ Doorly, who cleverly brings the track into a dance arena, with heavier bass and a rolling old-skool drumbeat, rising to a crescendo with horns and synths. Beautifully dirty!

They’re making a number of forays into London, so look out for them.

Flipping perception...

This London singer’s all about flipping perception on its head. Last year we had the pleasure of seeing EBRU at Flavour Live – amazing.

Watch her perform with her 10-piece band, reworking Frank Ocean’s ‘Swim Good’ on YouTube. EBRU (of Turkish descent) turns the contemporary classic into a soulful old-school number – the BBC hailed her vocals as ‘perfection’. She’s cleverly set herself up as an out and out singer, rather than genre-restricted artist.

Check out her soundcloud, she evens pokes her toe into a dance vibe.

Championed by one of the finest songwriters, Rod Temperton (Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’), her first single is ‘MAD’ featuring Durrty Goodz. Credit to them, creating something different and adventurous, with an old-school 60s vibe Goodz drops some bars over. Should be incongruous and awkward, but it works.
