Teacher accused of sex with student, 14

by Brent Whiting staff writer

A teacher at an elementary school near the Glendale Municipal Airport has been accused of sex crimes involving a 14-year-old female student. The suspect, Kimberly Ali, 28, was arrested Tuesday at her home near 99th Avenue and Indian School Road, where some of the crimes are alleged to have happened, according to Phoenix police. Ali is being held without bail in a Maricopa County jail on multiple counts of sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor, booking documents show. During questioning, Ali told police, “I think I fell in love with her and I just stopped thinking about her age. I know it was a mistake,” the documents show. The suspect is a teacher at Sonoran Sky Elementary School, 10150 W. Missouri Ave., about a mile southeast of the

Glendale airport. On Wednesday,

officials of the Pendergast

Elementary School District issued a statement saying the district is fully cooperating with police.

“District

counselors will be available to support students, former students, staff or family members,” the statement said. The district also said Ali started work in March this year and was placed on administrative leave July 27 following an initial investigation. Further, “there were no indications any of these acts occurred on or around school

property,” the district statement said. Police were called to the Sonoran Sky school after the principal reported that inappropriate texting had been uncovered involving Ali and a female student, according to jail booking documents. Investigators discovered that the contact had escalated and that there were sexual relations during a period ending about July 14, the documents show. Some of the alleged relations occurred

at Ali’s home as well as in Ali’s car while it was parked behind a supermarket near 107th Avenue and Indian School Road, according to police.

Authorities said that people with any information about the case are urged to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, or Phoenix police at 602-534-3220.
