DRUG DISCOVERY ChemOvation: Customer testimonials
“One area of chemistry that we are looking to further develop is the directed incorporation of fluorescent amino acids into peptide and protein sequences, which we have developed some basic methodology for. We would like to undertake further research and expand this area into the incorporation of chelates and near-infrared dyes into amino acids for labelled peptide imaging. The technology can also be used to synthesise fluorescent amino acid dye pairs for FRET studies. We just need to find a suitable partner to work with.”
Flexibility is key
ChemOvation has a laboratory that includes nine fume cupboards, with one walk-in. The company’s chemistry scale ranges from parallel 2.5ml pressure vessels to 10-litre reactions vessels. It can carry out semi- preparative C18 automated purification and has automated LC/MS and next-day turnround on NMR with the University of Greenwich. Staff numbers vary depending on projects – presently the company has eight staff, of which six have PhDs. ChemOvation is also able to draw on a number of retired staff who are still interested in chemistry but only
Professor Finbarr E. Cotter, Queen Mary University of London I have been working with ChemOvation having found them when looking for a medicinal chemistry company to assist me in my research. From the start I have found them excellent to work with and my association with them has continued over several years. During this time I have been able to tap in to their extensive drug discovery know-how and it has added real value to my research efforts. In particular the care, timeliness and cost-effectiveness has been a bonus. Over a four-month period their excellent chemistry capability and innovation was able to take a patented compound with weak anti-cancer characteristics to generate two lead series. One of these maintained the low toxicity profile of the original compound as well as increasing efficacy and was thus patented and is now in preclinical development. I will be working with ChemOvation again and recommend them most highly.
Dr Chris Hobbs, Senior Director of Chemistry, Proximagen Ltd
ChemOvation consistently delivered a high-quality and productive service during a collaboration that spanned more than five years. Their extensive experience, expertise and innovative chemistry have been invaluable in progressing our programmes towards preclinical development. The success of our collaboration was the result of continuous communication and excellent project management. I would highly recommend working with ChemOvation.
on an ad hoc basis. These have many years of lab experience and provide extra resource to help balance the company’s workflow. “ChemOvation has a valuable role in the
early-phase progression of drug candidates, so as to accelerate the decision making process. As Big Pharma outsources more, the value of companies like ours will become even more apparent and we have good prospects for the future,” Matthews concludes.
