Looking to the future we have very exciting times ahead
Despite having the wettest June since records began and below average sunshine hours, Wiltshire Freemasons really do have a sunny outlook ahead.

Francis Wakem QPM Provincial Grand Master for Wiltshire
In this Summer edition of Across the Plain there is a lot to read about - what has happened and what will be happening in our Province.
One bright light on the near horizon is the annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge on 4 October at the City Hall, Salisbury. Master Masons will fi nd their summons and the announcement of appointments and promotions on the centre pages of this magazine.
I encourage as many as possible to attend Provincial Grand Lodge for it will be something rather special. The meeting will see the launch of the 2017 Festival on behalf of the Masonic Samaritan Fund. Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Peter Winton, has promised that the launch event will be like nothing we have done before. So stand by to be amazed !
Last year members of the Wiltshire Masonic Widows Association joined us at Provincial Grand Lodge to witness the investiture of the Provincial Officers. Members of the Association will be with us again in October.
This year an invitation is extended to wives and partners of those receiving appointments and promotions so that they can share the occasion and be part of the Festival launch.
Serving the Craft
One of the many pleasures of being Provincial Grand Master is meeting Brethren at their respective Lodges. It is especially pleasurable when part of the duty is to award a Certifi cate of Achievement for long service to the Craft.
On 20 June, at the Lodge of Innocence and Morality No 9587, I was delighted to present a certifi cate for 60 years service to RW Bro Brian Edwick, Past Provincial Grand Master. At what must be a unique occasion, I was accompanied by another Past Provincial Grand Master, Byron Carron. I’m not too sure what the collective noun is for a trio of Wiltshire Provincial Grand Masters but the photo shows the three of us on this happy occasion.
And fi nally
Across the Plain is your magazine. The Editor and members of the Provincial Information Team will be pleased to receive your contributions for future issues - you will fi nd the copy deadlines published on page 26. The Editor will be putting guidance notes on articles for submission on the Across the Plain page on the Provincial web site www.pglwilts.org.uk
together with the advertising rate card.
I thank all those who have contributed to the production of the magazine; to those who have sponsored the publication through advertisements; and my especial thanks to the Editor Philip Mackie.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Salisbury on 4 October.
Enjoy your Wiltshire Freemasonry. We are a small Province but have big hearts …. we Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much. We can all be very optimistic about the future of ‘our’ Freemasonry.
