Mark Master Masons of Wiltshire Hope for Tomorrow

‘Hope for Tomorrow’ is a Charity founded by Christine Mills MBE in 2003, following the death of her husband David, from cancer, to provide Mobile Chemotherapy Units.

The idea is that the Chemotherapy is brought nearer the patient, reducing travelling and shorter waiting times. The fi rst unit was launched in Gloucestershire, then one in Somerset. It was decided Wiltshire would be the next.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master for Mark Master Masons of Wiltshire W Bro John Bell made contact with the Charity and it was agreed that the Wiltshire Mark Masons would raise £20,000 in twelve months. At the same time an application was made to the Mark Benevolent Fund for £70,000. This was granted and presented to Mrs Mills last October.

Murray Walker launched the Wiltshire Unit, on 3rd May at Salisbury District Hospital to be used in Salisbury and Swindon. As well as the main unit, two support cars were provided for the use of the nursing staff.

At the Wiltshire Provincial Meeting of Mark Master Masons on 21st June, the Provincial Grand Master RW Bro. Martin Brown was able to present a cheque for £32,000 to Christine Mills. This magnifi cent sum has been raised by all the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Lodges in the Province, many personal Gift Aided donations, Provincial Grand Lodge (Craft), four Craft Lodges and one Rose Croix Chapter.

The Order of the Secret Monitor

Little is known of a Masonic Order that is increasing its Conclaves throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.

It is a Degree called the Order of The Secret Monitor (OSM) or the Brotherhood of David and Jonathan - a very interesting Degree. There is an active Conclave in most cities and various towns.

One of the Wiltshire Conclaves meets at St Edmund Masonic Hall, in Calne, three times each year. In Calne, there is no joining fee and all new Inductees are presented with the OSM jewel and tie.
