Viva! was less than a year old, when the first issue of Viva!lifewas published in the Spring of 1995. Seventeen years later, what started as an eight-page, two-colour newsletter has now flourished into 48 pages in full colour – the best vegan campaigning magazine in the world! One of Viva!life’s main aims is to let you, our

supporters and our dedicated local groups, know about our campaign successes and provide an action-packed platform showing how Viva! inspires thousands of people every year to ditch meat and turn vegetarian or vegan. To mark our 50th issue, we thought we’d speak to

some of these people about why they support Viva! and what part we have played in their lives, whether getting behind one of our campaigns, ditching eggs or dumping dairy.

Viva! changed my diet – forever!

Celebrating life

of Editor Helen went vegan

because of Viva! Helen says: “I’d been vegetarian for over 15 years before I joined Viva! in 2008. I cooked a lot but everything I made was very dairy and egg centred. Then I met Juliet (Viva! founder & director) and everything changed. “I’m ashamed to admit that until this point I’d never

really thought about the ethics of eating eggs and cheese or drinking milk. I never thought about whether chickens or dairy cows suffered – until I saw Viva!’s Killing Timeand Dark Side of Dairyleaflets. That was it! With the help of friends and colleagues at Viva! I turned vegan.” As this issue of

Viva!lifegoes to print, Helen is off on maternity leave in preparation for having her first baby – a boy called Iolo. (Congratulations Helen and we miss you!)
