THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

(3rd July) A ‘reboot’ of the comic book hero that first burst onto the screen ten years ago starring Tobey Maguire. Now British actor Andrew Garfield steps into the tights as Peter Parker, a young man whose destiny changes forever when he becomes Spider-man, and has to save the city from the evil Dr. Connors AKA The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). Pretty much the same movie as the 2002 version, despite new director Marc Webb ("500 Days of Summer"). The 3D adds very little to this average blockbuster either, however Garfield's charm suggests better things to come.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (20th July)

Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy comes to an end, and this time the caped crusader (Christian Bale) comes up against his fiercest challenge yet, with Tom Hardy’s Bane and Selena Kyle/Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) threatening to bring Gotham City to its knees. “The Dark Knight” was a huge favourite (the best of the year) with me when it came out four years ago, and whilst this doesn’t quite reach the heights of that movie, it is an awesome and spectacular end to an awesome and spectacular trilogy.
