“The company’s communication and creation of performance culture has been a key to its success”

Bedfordshire-headquartered Kier Group provides services from land and property acquisition, through design and construction, to ongoing maintenance and service. Kier has projects under way in

strategy and adding value, Kier has continued to grow and remain profi table despite the prevailing economic conditions. Group revenue for the year to

June 2011 was up from £2.099 billion to £2.179bn, while profi t grew from £55.5m to £68.9m. The group reacted swiftly to

public sector cuts, raising the proportion of work coming from the private sector from 26 per cent

in 2010 to 44 per cent in 2011. It developed a team to progress

4D building information modelling processes, and formed a process and engineering business to broaden its in-house M&E design and delivery. Kier’s safety record is impressive,

its accident incident rate falling from 295 in 2010 to 244 in 2011. Last year Kier’s construction

division carried out 1,304 customer satisfaction surveys, with more than 1,100 achieving a rating in excess of 80 per cent, and 399 attaining perfect scores. The company challenges

client expectations. South Gloucestershire Council targeted a BREEAM Very Good from its new offi ces, but Kier worked with it to achieve an Excellent rating without additional cost. Kier is a signatory to the Offi ce

of Government Commerce Fair Payment Charter and the 2012 Construction Commitments. It procures 70 per cent of its

subcontracted works through established supply chains – far above the 35 per cent SFC target.
